9 reasons why you should root your android phone?
What does rooting mean? Rooting means getting to the root of your Android phone. It is a process that gives you full control over your phone and its hardware, in simple words. After rooting, you become an administrator of your phone who can do anything with it.
Don’t I have full control on my phone? NO!
Android operating system, by default, doesn’t provide full administrative rights to the user. It doesn’t provide us access right to Android OS core files. There are so many things that we can’t perform on our phones. So, we need to ROOT the Android to get full administrative rights on our phone, its system files, and application data.
9 Reasons why you should root your android phone?
1. You get full control on root partitions
How many times did it happen to you that while installing an app you received a notification “this app requires root permission on your phone”? I get it every now and then. It happens because that app requires full permissions on my phone’s filesystem and hardware to perform certain actions. Android provides you a lockdown system with limited access to the file system of the phone.
If you are a computer user, you can understand this concept easily. Your PC or laptop gives you full control over the hardware, software and system files. You can install, modify, change or delete any system or setting on your PC if you are an administrator. The same is not true for Android devices or any other mobile devices for that matter. Android phones come in a lockdown state, where only limited or necessary permissions are given to user/Apps. So, if you are installing an app which wants to modify your CPU speed (for example), you may not be able to do so without having root permission.
Having maximum permission on your Android phone is the biggest advantage of Rooting.
2. Use custom ROMs
If you root your mobile, you can get the advantage of custom ROM. Custom ROMs are a modified and enhanced version of your existing operating system (Android, in this case). Most of the times these custom ROMS are better than the original one that is installed on your Android phone (called stock ROM).
Custom ROM provides you with varieties of new enhancements like tweaks, visual retreats, new menus, added functionalities, better speed and longer battery life. They offer you such features which you can’t get in your existing OS. There are plenty of ROMs available on the market. CyanogenMod and Paranoid Android are a rage among the users. Check this compilation of best custom ROMs-
3. Custom ROMs are frequently updated
One of the most convincing reasons to use custom ROMS is that they are getting upgrades more frequently than the original Stock ROM. ROMs like Cyanogen and SlimRoms are updated more often than official ROMs. If you are using stock ROMs from Samsung, Nexus or Lava mobiles, for example, you may have to wait for a long time for new updates. On the other hand, custom Android ROMs are more punctual in terms of introducing new features and updates. Some of the ROMs do it on weekly basis. So you will keep pace with technology.
4. Get the real power of backup
Taking a timely backup of your phone data is certainly the biggest concern for you. Android comes with some inbuilt backup and restores features which are very basic in nature. You can backup your data including contacts, emails, SMS etc. Although this type of backup is quite sufficient for most of the users, this provides you with only a limited functionality.
If you want to back up your entire phone including its system files, settings, game data, app data, you can’t. For this, you will need a rooted phone.
There are plenty of backup apps are there in the Google store like “Titanium Backup”, which can back up everything including image level backup, application data, game data and all your settings that you can’t back up with non-rooted devices.
5. Gives you a faster Android
Rooting and installing a custom ROM leaves you with a fast and more responsive handset. There are custom ROMS like CyanogenMod which drastically improves your Android performance.
6. Improved battery life
Rooting not only gives you a faster performance but also an enhanced battery life. Various Custom ROMs like ParanoidAndroid significantly extends the battery life of a phone after installing. If you are an Android geek and know enough about Android internals, you can do some tweaks yourself and make your battery last longer.
Additionally, you can install a 3rd party app like Greenify which is known for improving battery backup; these apps need root permission.
7. Amazing apps that work only on rooted device
There are a plethora of Android apps available on the internet which cannot be installed on a non-rooted phone. Since these apps need root permission, there is no way you can use them.
- Full!Screen is an app that takes away soft keys from your screen and gives you full screen to work with
- Greenify gives you total control over your Android. You can control each and every app installed on your phone and can prevent unnecessary battery usage.
- Tasker helps you create automated tasks at system level(Don’t confuse it with normal task scheduler)
These are just a few examples. There are thousands of such wonderful apps. Try now.
8. Uninstall unwanted apps
Many inbuilt apps on your Android can’t be Uninstalled even if you want to remove it. They are cumbersome and unnecessarily consuming your disk space and processor, yet there is no way to remove them. With a rooted device, you have a choice to do away with all those uncanny apps. How? Because you are now a super user of the phone.
There are 3rd party tools like SystemApp Remover and Root Uninstaller, which will help you to uninstall any app.
9. Remove block all Ads, bloatware
Publishers are making a good chunk of money with their Ads. This is how they earn money, however, these ads are quite irritating at times. They appear anywhere and everywhere on your Android set. And the worst part is that you cannot do anything to remove them.
After rooting your phone you can completely eliminate all the ads, bloatware and adware. There are apps like AdAway available in the market which gives you complete respite from annoying Ads. AdAway was so perfect in removing adware that Google has removed it from Google Play. Still, you can download this app directly from their website.
These are some of the wonderful benefits you get after rooting your Android handset.
Besides benefits, there are some downsides too. The moment you root your phone, you will lose your phone warranty. So, don’t go to the service center and say that you have rooted the phone and it is not working now. They will not do anything because you have nullified your warranty. Moreover, there are chances of your android being non-functional after the rooting if anything goes wrong. Although the odds are very rare, you should keep it in mind.
