Android phone without internet connection is like a light bulb without electricity. Most us resort to broadband Wi-Fi for internet while at home. As compared to mobile data, it is economical, especially in India. When we step out of our home, we need to turn off the Wi-Fi manually. Otherwise, it will keep on consuming the battery in the background unnecessarily. There is an awesome automatic way to turn off the Wi-Fi automatically when you leave home.
Turn off the Wi-Fi automatically when you leave home
No big deal, there is an amazing app in Android Play Store called IFTTT. Sounds weird, huh? It stands for If This, Then That. You can do incredible things with IFTTT. However, here I will explain you how to automate Wi-Fi connectivity in your Android phone.
1 Go to play store (pretty obviously) and download IFTTT
2 Sigh up to the app. Nothing new. You do it for most the apps these days
3 On the base bar, click on My Applets. Select plus sign. You will see this.
4 You will see the “if this then that” screen. Select the plus sign before “this”.
5 You will greeted with a plethora of tools. Select Location from the list
6 Now you have to select the action to trigger the reaction. Select You exit an area
7 It will open up a small map. Enter your home location. Alternatively, let it detect the location. Location service in your mobile must be turned on.
8 After selecting your location, you will come back to main screen. Now, you have to select that. It actually lets you select the action that you want to trigger, when you leave your home location. Select Android device from the list.
9 From the list of actions, choose Turn off Wi-Fi. Finish the wizard.
BOOM, you are done. So, basically in IFTT, you have to select an action first and then select the reaction it will trigger based on the condition specified.
Whenever, you step out of you home, it will turn off the Wi-Fi. You can create another applet to connect to Wi-Fi when you come to your home from office. No need to keep the Wi-Fi service on all the time.
