WhatsApp will not support these phones after 31st
One of the most popular messaging platform WhatsApp is going to end its support for many smartphones. WhatsApp is finding it difficult to incorporate new features on outdated platforms.
So, the messaging app would be unavailable on these platforms post 31st December 2017. If you are still using these devices, it is time now to upgrade them or buy yourself a new one.
WhatsApp will not support these phones after 31st –
BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 — Post-December 31, 2017
Windows Phone 8.0 and older — post- December 31, 2017
Nokia S40 — post-December 31, 2018
Android versions 2.3.7 and older — post February 1, 2020
One important point has to be noted here that you can still avail WhatsApp on these devices if you are already installed it and using it. However, you can no longer create new accounts or re-verify the existing accounts. Furthermore, you will not get any update or bug fixes on these devices. So, using them post 31st December may be a kind of security threat for you. In the wake of threats from ransomware, you have to be careful while using unsupported or outdated apps.
Why Whatsapp is doing this?
Whatsapp is developing its app continually and incorporating enhanced features day by day. Older devices may not be able to support these enhanced features efficiently. So, the messaging company is discontinuing their support. There is nothing strange in this because WhatsApp has already discontinued some platforms earlier too owing to compatibility issues.
The following platforms are no longer supported:
Android versions older than 2.3.3
Windows Phone 7
iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
Nokia Symbian S60
If you haven’t transferred your important pictures to new device yet, its high time you should think about it. I will suggest you to upload all your data to Google Drive and download it on your new device. There are plethora of ways to do it.
